What is Fire rated Glass?
Fire-rated glass is specially engineered to withstand high temperatures and prevent the spread of flames, smoke, and heat during a fire. It plays a vital role in passive fire protection, helping to compartmentalise buildings and protect escape routes.
We offer a full range of fire-rated glass types, including:
- Integrity-only glass (E-rated)
- Integrity & insulation glass (EI-rated)
- Glass for timber, steel, and aluminium framing systems
Understanding Fire Ratings: 30/0, 30/30, 60/0, 60/30
Fire-rated glass is classified by two key performance measures:
Integrity (E)
Prevents the passage of flames and hot gases.
Example:
- 30/0 (E30) – 30 minutes of flame resistance, no insulation.
Insulation (I)
Limits heat transfer to the non-fire side, protecting people and materials nearby.
Example:
- 30/30 (EI30) – 30 minutes of flame resistance and heat insulation.
- 60/30 (EI60) – 60 minutes of integrity, 30 minutes of insulation.
Why it matters:
- E-rated glass is suitable for areas where flame containment is the priority.
- EI-rated glass is essential for escape routes, stairwells, and corridors, where radiant heat could pose a risk.
Fire-Rated Glass for Timber Joinery
